How do I start my Orthodontics treatment?

To start orthodontics treatments with our dentists you must first have a discussion about your orthodontic requirements. We can then assess your situation and give you a quote, as well as a timeline and outline of the extraction-free orthodontic treatments. This initial consultation is called a "Discuss Your Orthodontics" session.

Appointment, Billing and Insurance Questions

How do I make an appointment with Dr Chang or Dr Zykus?

Please contact our friendly receptionists on (08) 9446 3225 and we will be happy to help you book an appointment with one of our dentists.  All appointments are exclusive reservations. We encourage patients only to make appointments that they know they will keep.

Can I obtain a dental quote or estimate without an appointment?

No.  Every case is so very different. We require an in-depth look at your specific situation and can then assess your requirements and make a proper recommendation, and quote.

Can I claim my Orthodontics on Medicare?

Most patients are unable to claim Medicare benefits for procedures provided from this surgery. However, The Child Dental Benefits Schedule aims to assist families with the cost of basic dental services for children aged 2 – 17 years of age. This Schedule commenced on 1st January 2014 and the total benefit entitlement is capped at $1,000 per child over a two-calendar year period. The Child Dental Benefit Schedule is means tested, which requires receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) or a relevant Australian Government payment. For further information and to check your eligibility please visit the Department of Human Services website.

What about Payment for Dental Treatment?

Payment for dental treatment is due and payable on the day treatment is issued.

How do I pay for my Appliance(s)?

A deposit is required prior to the manufacture of your appliances as they are custom made just for you.

What payment methods do you accept?

For your convenience we accept cash, cheque, bank deposit, Visa, MasterCard, and Debit Card. For patients with private health insurance, HICAPS is also available.

Do you accept private health insurance?

Yes, HICAPS is available.

Do you make exceptions to your pay-on-the-day payment policy?

Not usually, no.  Under certain circumstances, we can provide interest free payment plans.

Can I reschedule if I need to?

Patients may need to reschedule an appointment due to an unanticipated event. We ask that where possible 48 hours’ notice is provided if you are unable to attend so that we may offer this reservation to another patient.

Will you be seeing me on time?

Although we endeavour too and do run to time in most instances, emergencies and unforeseen circumstances may occasionally result in appointment book schedule changes. We trust that affected patients will be understanding if this may occur.

Orthodontic Appliance Questions and Answers:

How many hours do I need to wear the orthodontic appliances for?

The quantity of hours you (or your child) will be required to wear the orthodontic appliance(s) can vary from patient to patient. We usually recommend the orthodontic appliances be worn for at least 15 - 20 hours per day. We recommend many of these hours be sleep-hours so as not to intrude on our client's waking lives as much.

Can I wear my orthodontic appliances at night?

We recommend you (or your child) wear the orthodontic appliance(s) during the night, while sleeping, as this is the ideal time to obtain many hours easily.

How long do I need to wear the orthodontic appliances for?

The time can vary from patient to patient, your active treatment can last approx. 1- 2 years if appliances are worn sufficiently. Retainers will need to be worn and slowly reduced over several years.

Holistic Dentistry FAQs:

Where can I find out more?

https://www.cfoo.com/  - Dr Skipp Truitt has a wonderful webpage that explains a practical approach to orthopaedics and orthodontics. He explains the four golden rulesand all treatment concepts.

Do you use amalgam fillings?

We do not use amalgam fillings in our dental practice.  Our Dentists have not done so for over 30 years! The choices are natural tooth-coloured materials such as resin-based composite fillings, porcelain and zirconia and BPA free composite.

Insurance Questions:

Do you accept HICAPS?

Dr Chang’s dental Surgery offers on the spot HICAPS claims so patients have the convenience of lodging their Health Fund claims immediately. After your treatment we will swipe your health fund card and it automatically calculates how much your health fund will pay for the service – all you will need to do is pay the gap.
